Mission
At the Bridge Art + Science Alliance (BASA) we strive to develop and maintain a lasting community of artists and scientists committed to working together to solve the interdisciplinary problems of our increasingly complex world. BASA produces media projects, hosts workshops, and puts on events aimed at merging scientific discovery with the storytelling and spatial intelligence of the visual arts. We work to cultivate a fertile ground for discovery, creativity, and expression at this intersection, with each field propelling the other forward.
Generously supported by The Bridge Institute at the University of Southern California, BASA is committed to bringing together some of the most creative minds in chemistry, film production, biology, animation, interactive installation, fine art, mathematics, entertainment technology, game design, biomedical engineering, medicine, physics, experience design, media arts, neuroscience, cinematography, editing, astronomy, documentary filmmaking and more, creating a transdisciplinary task force ready to take on the multifaceted problems of today.
We create connections and collaborations between artists and scientists
Project Funding
We provide funding for interdisciplinary art + science projects. Areas of previously funded projects include: animation, documentary, virtual reality, comic book, painting, web series, artist in residency programs and many more.
Events
We create events and workshop to connect artists and scientists and encourage collaboration. Previous events include artist and scientist mixer, humanoid robotics workshop, silent disco style panels at a pub, art/sci Trivia Night, and more.
Connections
We arrange individual consultations for artists who want to meet scientists and scientists who want to meet artists. If you are working on a media project that could benefit from the advice of a scientist or engineer, let us find you a match and set up a meeting for the two of you. If you are a scientist who wants to create a piece of media, then we will connect you to the right artist.
Media Project Tools
We host a maker space with media tools like high-powered graphics computers, animation software, production tools, virtual reality devices, and more.
Scientific Set and Prop Services
We offer scientific laboratory space and props for media makers to use for movie production. We provide production design consultations to help make the scientific setting in your media project feel just like the real thing.
